(un) Happy Easter

Where do I begin. Andrew has been sick with a low fever since Friday night. Of course this hasn't slowed him down at all, but still as a mom you are a little concerned. We were planning on having some friends over for Easter lunch and to hunt eggs, but with Andrew being "iffy" it was left up in the air until this morning to see how he was feeling. Last night I had high hopes that he would be ok. The Motrin I had been giving him seemed to be working so with that in mind I got everything ready for Easter morning once he was asleep. I put the jelly beans in the eggs and then prepared Andrew's basket and set it out for him to find this morning. Well about 30min after I went upstairs for bed our dog decided to come on up. I didn't think much about this until I realized he wasn't laying down. He was just sitting there looking at me all guilty. (you see where this is going don't you) Knowing that he ALWAYS tells on himself I got up to see what damage had been done. I assumed he got into the trash or something like that. OH NO!! That would have been too easy. This dog (I'm refusing to use his name because I am still angry at him) had pulled everything out of Andrew's Easter basket and ate every last piece of candy. I'm talking the chocolate bunny, gum, an entire bag of jelly beans and 5 or 6 peanut butter cup eggs. Seriously?!?! I think for the first time in my life I was at a loss for words. So after a little break down on my part I cleaned up the mess and salvaged what I could. Thank goodness I always get some little toys and my parents had sent a singing bunny! Fast forward to about 2am this morning. I wake up to something burning my arm. I realize the burning is coming from Andrew's arm which is laying across me. Yep, you've got it, his fever spiked. I took his temp and it was.....you ready......104.3! Wow, I was honestly shocked by this number. I immediately woke him up to take more medicine and hoped that would do the trick. From that point on I was up at least once an hour checking on him to make sure the fever was going down. It stayed slightly above 101 most of the morning and finally got close to normal a few hours ago. Needless to say our friends did not come over today. I agreed to let him go hunt Easter eggs once his fever was close to normal even though it was sooo cold and windy outside. So that was our Easter. Don't you wish your's was as good.. HA HA...

checking out the goods (thankfully he didn't notice there wasn't any candy)

you can't tell he has a fever here, but it was still over 101

cheese!!

All things considered we've had a good day. Hopefully Andrew will get to feeling better soon. I hope everyone had a great Easter!!!

Madame Zaritska's prediction was.....................

WRONG!! Well at least so far it was. She predicted we were going to have a boy and yesterday at my ultrasound I learned we are having a.......... GIRL!! That's right Andrew is going to have a baby sister. This is actually very good news in this house since he has been saying it was a girl for months now. I really had no desire to argue with him if I found out we were having another boy. He got pretty angry about it when the subject of a 2nd boy was brought up. Kids are too funny! So now that we know it's time to shop!! Of course there's also the daunting task of picking a name for her. With Andrew, Adam and I argued up until a week or 2 before he was born (we don't agree on any names). Maybe this time we will find one a little faster, I doubt it though.

Interesting

Ok I found a link to this on someone elses blog and since I am having my ultrasound tomorrow I thought it would be fun to try. Guess we'll have to wait and see how accurate it is.
Madame Zaritska, using her mystical powers, has the following prediction:The day you deliver, outside will be rainy. Your baby will arrive in the late morning. After a labor lasting approximately 12 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 14 ounces, and will be 18 inches long. This child will have medium hazel eyes and a little patch of brown hair.
Here's the website if you want to try it out. Check back tomorrow to see if she at least got the sex right.

Baby Update

I realized that I haven't posted about my pregnancy and the new baby in a long time so here is some info. There really isn't much to tell right now. As of today I am 19 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I went to the Dr yesterday and so far everything seems to be going well. The heart beat was 145-150, which is MUCH lower than Andrew was. I am hoping this means the new baby will be calmer, but you never know. So far I've only gained about 5lbs, but I lost a lot in the beginning so I guess technically I'm still in the negatives where weight is concerned. I can only hope I continue not to gain much. I put on so much weight with Andrew and I would rather not do that again. The only "issues" I really have involve my kidney's. I've been having a lot of pain especially when I drink dark soda (I know it's not good for me). They are assuming the strain of the pregnancy is harder on my kidneys this time around. So I just have to lay off the caffeine and I should be fine. I go Thursday to get my ultrasound so hopefully I will be able to post that night and let everyone know if we're having a boy or a girl. Andrew had everything out in full display during his ultrasound so with any luck this baby will be the same :-)

An invisible ghost lives in our house

Yes you read that right. Apparently there is an invisible ghost living in our house. Yesterday evening Andrew was upstairs in my room watching cartoons. I heard a thud but that is not an uncommon sound considering he usually jumps off my bed. I thought nothing of the sound until I hear Andrew screaming and crying at the top of his lungs. I ran to the stairs and that is where I was informed of the event. Andrew told me he was just sitting there watching cartoons when "someone just sneaked upstairs and pushed me off the bed". He told me this between all of the sobs and tears. It was really rather cute. So a couple hours later, after he had calmed down, he was still complaining about his wrist hurting. It wasn't really swollen or bruised at all, but something told me to go ahead and take him to the ER. Well I'm glad I did. 2 hours and 4 x-rays later we learned that my little guy has a "buckle fracture of the distal radius and ulna". Now I have no idea what a buckle fracture is exactly, but it isn't anything too bad. He has to wear a cast for 4 weeks and the we will go back to the orthopedic doctor to have it x-rayed again. Hopefully all will be well and he won't have to get another cast after that. Here are some pictures from today's visit to the ortho office. He did such a good job getting his cast on!

Afterwards we went to Cracker Barrel for lunch. Nothing like some good ol' mac and cheese with chicken strips to make a kiddo feel better.

Arkansas in February (a nice break from winter)

Andrew and I just got back from a week long trip to Arkansas. Let me tell you it was soooo nice to have a little escape from the cold weather. Granted seeing family was good too the warm weather was absolutely FABULOUS!! :-)
We didn't get to see as many people as we would have liked to, but there just never seems to be enough time to fit everyone and everything in. We hung out at the house a lot and Andrew got to play with his Nana and Pawpaw which he LOVED. On one particularly nice day we went to Berryhill Park to let Andrew run around and burn off some energy. He had so much fun and is still talking about going back to the park. Maybe one of these days it will warm up enough here so that we can get outside a little more. Well I'm going to try and keep this short because I have a lot of pictures. Hope everyone is having a good March so far! There isn't much to update in terms of the new baby. We should find out sometime around the first of April if it's a boy or a girl. I'll be sure to keep everyone updated.

One month down

On the 12th of this month Adam had officially been gone one month. So far things have been going very well for Andrew and myself. We are hanging in there and living life the best we can without Adam here. Sure there have been some tough moments, but all in all it's been a good month. From what I can tell Adam is doing fine. He hasn't made it to his final destination just yet, but should be getting there within the next few days. It takes time to get from point to point in Afghanistan, especially when the final point is out in the middle of nowhere. Adam is limited in what he can tell me in emails and over the phone so the few conversations we have had mainly discussed Andrew and everything going on back here. Speaking of things going on here Andrew and I are super excited to be heading back to AR for a little vacation next week. It's been quite a while since I've been "home" and this will probably be my last trip until after the baby comes. I must admit I'm looking forward to having my momma cook for me although I dread my next Dr appt 2 days after I return to NY. I don't want to step on that scale after spending a week in AR! There really isn't much to talk about right now. I just wanted to give a mini update on Adam and how long he's been gone. Only 11 more months until he's home for good! Below are a few pics from Andrew playing in the snow a few weeks ago.

An up and down week

Wow this has been a roller coaster of a week for me. Lots of ups and downs can take a toll on a person. I don't know how many people watch the news, even if you do it's possible you missed the story. On Monday 2 helicopters collided in Iraq killing the 4 soldiers on board (2 per chopper). These 4 brave men were all stationed here at Fort Drum. I don't personally know them or their families but as a wife of a deployed soldier hearing of incidents like this one have an effect on me. What makes it even harder is the fact that these soldiers were from Fort Drum, our home, our division, our family. The Army is a hard thing to explain to those who have never been closely involved. You get the privilege of meeting people you never would have outside of the military. Some of these people you like, some you hate and others become a second family. I love my Army family and I don't know what I would do without them. Over the past 6 years my Army family has changed. People move to other duty stations or simply get out all together and then other's move in. I am currently going through kind of a transition with my particular Army family. Those I have developed close relationships with have moved leaving me with a small group here at Drum. I wouldn't trade these girls for anything. I don't know how I would survive without them and their support. Like I said before, I LOVE MY ARMY FAMILY!!!! I want to ask everyone to please remember the families of those 4 soldiers in your prayers. They are going through something I can only imagine and something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.
On a happier note Adam was able to call on Thursday and talk to both Andrew and I. While it wasn't a long conversation it was the first one we've had since Adam left on the 12th. He seems to be doing well. His company made it to their final destination so hopefully once things get settled we will have more contact with him. I want to say thank you to everyone for your support during this time. I know this year will pass quickly and by this time next year we will be one big happy family again.

August 22, 2009

For those of you who don' know, this is the day baby #2 is due. That's right Adam and I are expecting another baby. We didn't find out until a few weeks ago when I was almost 8 weeks along. I'll spare you all of the details of how we found out and all of that. Just know that we were SHOCKED, happy, but SHOCKED. This pregnancy won't be very different from the last. Adam is deployed so I get to go through it all pretty much alone (with the exception of a few good friends). The only major difference is that last time Adam's deployment ended at the same time I was due so there was no problem with him making it home in time for delivery and he was here to help once we came home too. This time the baby is due in the middle of the deployment so there's lots of planning and luck involved. We are going to TRY and schedule his 2 week R&R around the due date so that Adam can be here for delivery and a week or so after, but no matter how well we plan in the end it all relies on this little baby cooperating. Please keep your fingers crossed that everything works out because I would hate for Adam to miss this event, not to mention I would rather not go through it without him. I am now just over 9 weeks along and feeling pretty good. I'm not sure when we will get the ultrasound to find out if it's a girl or a boy, but once I know I will definitely do a post.
